Why does Silksong take so long? ›

To develop its first game, Team Cherry had to crowdfund through Kickstarter. Now, thanks to the success of that first title, the development of Silksong is not subject to the same budgetary restrictions, which means Team Cherry will be able to build something even bigger than before—and take longer to do so.

There is no official Hollow Knight Silksong release date right now, but it could still be on track to arrive in late 2023. This is due to the game having been originally planned for release in the first half of 2023 before a Tweet from the game's marketing director confirmed a delay.

Silksong entered the world intended as an expansion for the first Hollow Knight, but spun off into a full sequel with a new setting, protagonist, and playstyle of its own.

In Silksong, the protagonist Hornet will have her own voice and can tell her own story, potentially leading to a dramatic and open-ended storyline that could elevate the series to new heights.

After plans to include Hornet in Hollow Knight DLC grew, the team decided to give them their own game.

Team Cherry stated the game to be very large, featuring at least 165 new enemies and over 100 different benches in the game, while Hollow Knight only has 41 benches. Silksong will have an additional difficulty mode with permanent death called "Silk Soul mode", akin to the "Steel Soul mode" found in Hollow Knight.

Presumably captured by the inhabitants, Zote can be found bound by spiderwebs in a central area of Deepnest. Zote will signal his position to players by grumbling, which will become louder as they approach his location.

Zote's father is (or was) a knight of great renown, and may have inspired the appearance of the Hollow Knights. A lot of people have speculated that Zote is a Vessel due to his resemblance to the Knight, but that seems to be untrue.
